What Causes Facial Swelling?
Question: In may this year, I woke up with the right side of my face swollen. I had some paralysis and was treated in hospital as a stroke but all tests came back negative. The swelling happened for 2 days afterwards similarly with symptoms resolving by the end of the day. The third day i awoke with weakness on left side that lasted 72 hours with full recovery. All CT's and MRI's negative. Final diagnosis was migraines. I am currently taking topamax 50mg daily. I have had 6 episodes of awakening with facial swelling since 9th September. I have had a persistent cough for 8 weeks now, anf find it difficult to breath when looking down like my neck is blocking. My fitbit also shows up an increased heart rate prir to my awakening with the swollen face. I am not happy with my current diagnosis as i do not get headaches with the swelling. my research leads me more towards superior vena cava syndrome.

The symptom complex you have put-in so well make me think of an allergic phenomenon and most probably manifesting as angio-neurotic edema with resultant all the symptoms that you have.
I do agree with you about this being not migraines.
Superior vena cava syndrome may not present this way.
You are already taking Topamax and Prednisolone, I do not know how Topamax is going to help you.
Prednisolone helps and if you have to take this for more than a few weeks, it is better to take additional Calcium and Vitamin D3.
Addition of Antihistamine may help.
