What Causes Fatigue And Frequent Diarrhea While On Trileptal And Celexa?

Question: I have a 28 year old on Trileptal and Celexa and minocyclin who has been tired and having frequent loose stools and poor energy over several months. No out of country exposures, etc. Checked labs and found dramatic low potassium 2.0. Have been able to get her to take 10 meq bid and she is feeling better after a week but still low 2.8. DO you think meds are any of the problem?

I am more suspiscious of IBS type issues with K loss. Thoughts appreciated!!!

I have read the query and understand the problem.

Severe loose motions since several months could be related to irritable bowel syndrome as you are suspecting.

Also 2.8 serum potassium level is very low which should be corrected immediately.

These loose motions may also be related to this Trileptal and Celexa and minocycline medications.

But before further discussion let me know some more information.

Since how many months is she having loose stools?
Was she investigated by blood and stool test earlier?
Any anti-diarrhea medications or probiotics taken earlier?
Any other symptoms apart from loose stools?

Kindly get back to me with this more information,I will give my opinion after that.
