What Causes Fatigue, Muscle Weakness And Cracking Of Skin?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: Low globulin (1.5), high albumin (4.9), low ferritin (22, still low after 6 months at 300%DV or more), high anion gap (17), positive thyroid antibodies but normal TSH (2.42)...what does it all mean?
Forgot to mention that the reason I am even asking is that I have been suffering from fatigue and muscle weakness since last October. Other weird symptoms that started at a similar time include cracking of skin near cuticles and strange acne-like bumps on my scalp.

Brief Answer:
Symp & test result suggest onset of hypothyroidism

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
The symptoms of fatigue, muscle weakness and cracking of skin suggest thyroid abnormality.
Hypothyroidism is characterised by these symptoms.
The test results show normal TSH levels.
However, there is presence of autoantibodies against thyroid.
Presence of autoantibodies herald onset of hypothyroidism.
Is there any swelling of thyroid gland?
If yes, you need to get an aspiration cytology of the lesion.
If no, you need to monitor the thyroid function tests.
Low level of ferritin level is seen in iron deficiency anemia.
You need to get complete hemogram done to look for features of anemia.
There is only marginal decrease in globin level and marginal increase in anion gap level.
You can get the test repeated after few days.

If you have more queries, I will glad to answer.
