default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: Symptoms I have had for a couple of months:

fatigue
dizziness
nausea
diarrhea
occasional body vibration sensation
tingling tongue
film on tongue
bloating
body aches
Occasional trouble breathing, but is not the same as from my Athsma.

I have been diagnosed with:
TMJ
Curvature of the Spine
Arthritis in neck
Mucosa in the stomach
Acid Reflux
Asthma

Please help, I have had multiple test done and am on medication for Asthma and GERD. But why am I still miserable? Vitamin and Mineral levels ok. Liver and Kidney function test came back normal. All blood test have come back normal. I walk every evening, eat healthy and still gain weight and feel worse. There has to be something wrong, people do not gain weight when they exercise more and eat less!! My local doctors are not figuring this out.

Brief Answer:
Weight gain

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to note your symptoms.

I see you have had a litany of tests which have come back normal.

I did not see any mention of thyroid. Would you know if your TSH was checked? And if yes, was it normal?

Also, there are 2 rare causes of weight gain called Cushings syndrome and Acromegaly.

There are tests available to screen for these two problems. A blood test called IGF1 is a simple way to look for the possibility of Acromegaly. The test does not require any fasting and can be done at any time of the day. It is caused by excess GH (Growth Hormone) in the body which in addition to other complaints, also results in weight gain.

In order to check for Cushing's disease, a midnight salivary cortisol test is useful. But I see you are on beclomethasone. This is a type of (cortico)steroid medicine which can lead to weight gain, and also make testing for Cushings unreliable. Basically, Cushings disease is a condition of excess steroid, and one cannot test for it if you are already on known external sources of steroids. The latter is known as Cushings syndrome due to excessive steroid doses.
Check with your doctor who is prescribing the beclomethasone if the doses can be minimized
