Question: I just had a good asnwer from Dr. Berger Dumbough, just wanted to mention yet that my mom's, among other meds is also on metoprolol, diltiazem and bumex all of which also contibute to fatigue, weakness , and yes, her hematocit is borderline . And then, yes she's had reepat hosapitalizations with water on her lung and penumonia. So it's very delicate to mess with her meds, But we're at the end of our wits with her weakness (frequent falls)

Hello - I'm sorry I am only now seeing your question.

I see you listed Bumex which is a very potent diuretic which can deplete potassium, and as you know, spironolactone is potassium sparing. So where things are at with your mom's electrolytes should be watched closely. Her symptoms may be from too much or too little potassium.

Metoprolol, which is a beta blocker type medication can cause fatigue, but it is recommended if a patient has a lower ejection fraction and CHF. Also, if she has been on it for awhile (not recently added), it is less likely that it would be causing her new increase in muscle weakness and exhaustion.

CHF itself can cause feeling fatigued with minimal exertion. But if she feels her muscles feel different/weaker, that might be an electrolyte imbalance.

I wish I could do more. I am happy to help by answering questions that are within my expertise/experience.

That plan is ok if her symptoms are not new or worsening. If they are, please do not wait, as sever hypokalemia or hyperkalemia can cause serious and sometimes life threatening problems.
