What Causes Fecal Odor?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: I have been having fecal odor for the last 2 - 3 months with no discharge. I have regular bowl movements (Once or twice a day). I wash really well, and will start smelling a few hours after a good shower. Any potential diagnosis?

Brief Answer:
Chances of intestinal infection esp Giardiasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I understand your concern. The symptoms you said can be due to various reasons. To name a few common ones which could be a protozoa infection Giardiasis, malabsorptive causes and celiac disease.

If I were your treating doctor I would suggest you to go for a stool culture and diagnose the correct organism. And would give you antibiotic to control this infection empirically. Please maintain sanitation esp handwashing before putting it into your mouth and drink lots of water.

Please see a nearby physician without further delay and get evaluated for the same.Feel free to ask more.
