What Causes Feeling Of Something In The Back Of Tongue Along With Thick Saliva?
Tonsillitis;GERD; stress to be determined/ruled out as following...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am sorry for the situation you are in.
1. Having the feeling of something being in the back of your tongue is indicating possible:
- tonsillitis if tonsils are enlarged too and you find it difficult to swallow
- being stressed
- GERD (acid reflux)
2. The presence of mucousy and thick saliva is also indicating possible acid reflux especially if you are also having heartburn or stomach pain too.
3. Being dehydrated due to hot weather is also a possible cause.
4. I advise to:
- increase fluids intake
- if tonsils are enlarge, gargle with warm water and salt
- get your diabetes testing done
- if tonsils not enlarged, should discuss with GI specialist to run upper endoscopy and manometry testing to rule out GERD
- try to control stress
Hope it was of help!

Gastro-esophageal-reflux-disease explained below...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
GERD is gastro-esophageal-reflux-disease or acid reflux.
It is characterized by hyperacidity of the stomach and by irritation of esophagus and oro-pharynx by the stomach liquid flowing back from stomach to esophagus and oro-pharynx.
Such irritation is then felt like drying mouth, thick and mucosy saliva as you are already having.
Hope it answered to your question!
