Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: Hi I have had the feeling of something stuck at the back of my tongue for past few days. It feels like a short hard hair or something. I looked in my throat and tried eating dry bread to push it forward but nothing seems to work. Please can someone advise if this is something to do with aches reflux? My throat is slightly burning and I feel the need of clearing my throat constantly it's like irritated! Few days ago I spit couple of yellowish lumps out of my throat with very unpleasant smell! Please can someone advise what this might be and how can I get rid of that feeling from the back of my throat/tongue.
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Yes it could be Acid reflux and/or Pharyngitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

Usually inflammation in the area of base of tongue gives a foreign body sensation

There are all chances you have pharyngitis as you have history of passing yellow foul smelling mucus

Adding to it the burning would be because of acid reflux

So I would suggest you take a good proton pump inhibitor and saline water gargles. If need be an antibiotic for the upper respiratory tract will do to treat the symptoms.

Hope this helps

When i look in my mouth/ throat it doesnt look congested but i find my tongue to be coated and i have this mucus and bad taste in my mouth ! Ive tried using neti pot with saline but it didnt really work. Ive been to gp and all they say is indigestion. I am on probiotics and tgat doesnt seem to help either. I have been in oral antigungals and it didnt work either. I do burp often but the smell and all tbe issues seem to be somwhere from ths back of my throat or esophagus. What specialist i need to visit to do all the checks as GP doesnt help

Hi

Great, it is easier treating patients who can understand their body and it's functioning

As suggested add a Proton pump inhibitor till you see a medical gastroentrologist

Digestive enzymes also would be of help

Hope this clears your doubts
DO update me once you see the gastroentrologist

Brief Answer:
Probably Prescription

Hi,

Depends on the law of the land. You can ask your chemist nearby regarding proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole or Omeprazole.
