What Causes Fever And Swelling In The Foot While Having Arthritis?

Question: I have the following symptoms....a temperature which has ranged from 102.4 to 99 over a 24 hour period ...I am taking tylenol and advil every 4-6 hours...but now my one foot is swollen on the top in the area above the toes and extending toward the ankle about 2 inches...I do have arthritis in this area above my big toe and first toe

the swelling is only in one foot (the one which does have an arthritic condition already however this is extending beyond the usual area

With such a presentation in my clinic, I would first rule out cellulitis by doing a physical examination and to confirm you may be advised complete blood count with differential. If confirmed then you need oral antibiotics for 10-14 days. To elevate your leg speed up healing, apply protective cream or ointment like neosporin if any external wound present. Moisturize your skin regularly which may help prevent cracking and peeling.
