What Causes Fever Blister Around The Nose And Lips When Diagnosed With HSV-2?

Posted on Tue, 19 Jul 2016
Question: I have recently been diagnosed with Hsv 2, but not Hsv1 ( blood test). I have never experienced genital outbreaks, but have had " fever blister " outbreaks around my nose/ lips for years (2-3 times annually on average). Does this mean that the Hsv2 resides in the facial area, and would therefore only be transmitted by oral sex?

Brief Answer:
HSV 2 can cause infection in the facial region as well as genitilia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
Either of the two viruses can involve the facial region or the genital area though HSV 1 is more common in the facial region but HSV 2 can also cause infection on the face.
HSV 2 in the facial region can be transmitted by oral sex as well due to contact with the secretions in an affected person by sharing of handkerchiefs or other fomites.

So in this case, intercourse without oral sex would not transfer the HSV2 to the other party?
