What Causes Fever During Night Time?
My son (1y 6m) is getting fever(@101.5 F) at evening-night timeframe since last three days.(from 5th Oct night)
On 6th morning fever subsided so we neglected it on 1st day saying it may be because of teething, but fever started again at night. So we visited a doctor on 7th morning who suggested to administer Magadol (3.5ml dose) at evening and at night. So we gave 3.5ml dose at 7pm and other at 12 pm, it kept fever away for some time but after 6 am he had fever again. So doctor advised to give magadol after every 6 hours thoughout the day today. We have given 3 doses today(8th Oct) 11.30 am, 5.30 pm and 11.30 pm. My son does not have fever now. But I want to ask, if this magadol is really treating the root cause or just preventing the fever? If fever comes back again what to do?
Is it safe to continue Magadol doses?
Please advice Thanks.
Fever and its causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Your son is having fever from the last 3 days and taking MAGADOL ( paracetamol ). Yes this is an anti pyretic drug and provide symptomatic treatment (don't cure root cause ).
Fever may be due to these reasons, these include:
1 Flu i.e. common cold so please wait for another 3-4 days .
2 Malaria , this is also a common reason of such fever particularly in children ( in mosquito born area) . So please get in blood film for malarial parasite .
3 Typhoid fever is another such reason , if fever don't subside after 7 days ( 3 days magadol , wait for 4 days ). Widal or serology test for confirmation.
However, there are so many other reasons of such fever as teething , sore throat but deal as mentioned above.
I also recommend LEVOFLOXACIN 10 mg / kg body weight( once in a day) for 5 days along magadol( antibiotics ).
Paracetamol is a safe drug for short term use , so need not to worry, you can give safely.
Hope this will help you.
Speedy recovery for you son.
Rash may be due to side effect.

Hello XXXXXXX
This rash may be due to allergy of magadol or due to allergy ( urticaria ) of cold or flu.
At present montelukast 0.2 mg /kg body weight is sufficient ,once in day. Give it after discussing with doctor.
Clotrimazole local ( application )solution will also help.
Need not to worry and not a cause of concern .
If recurs then get in blood for eosinophils count as well stool for worm infestation.
Hope this will help you.
