What Causes Fever, Sore Throat And Dry Cough?

My 6+ year old son who weighs 30 kgs is suffering from fever since tomorrow. The temperature had been around 102 to 103. I have given him Crocin Suspension twice between 6 hrs gap. The fever came down but again re-appering. He is having throat irritation too and dry cough. Should I start an anti-biotic course of Azithral 200 twice daily or what do you suggest?
Thanks

Viral illness - No need for antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
I suggest you not to start Azithromycin as it is an antibiotic and that too it can be use as a second line drug even for Typhoid fever. So please do not use it unless really indicated.
Fever of 2 days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If he is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
Cough and cold are viral 95% of the times in children. It is very common for viral infections to culminate in cough while settling. For cold you can use anti-allergics like Cetirizine and for nose block, saline nasal decongestants will do.
If you can get back to me with the weight of your son, I will be glad to suggest the medications and formulations.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
