What Causes Flaky Skin Around A Mole?
Question: About a month ago I submitted an inquiry on here about a mole that I had on my shoulder. I had scratched the mole (See the attached picture) and it created a wound. It has healed since then. I've shown my dermatologist on 8/29/14 and he said he wasn't concerned and it was scratched and that it was an area where he had already checked out when I had a full body check. Over the last week or so I've been noticing that the mole and the surrounding area has had flaky skin. The mole itself has not changed shape or color or formed any open wounds/ulcerations. Is this just a normal process. The whole area around that mole has been irritated by bandaids and scratching but that was about a month ago. There has been no real itching on this area, except for some minor itching here and there, and not directly on the mole itself.I've enclosed a new picture (mole929) of the mole showing the healed area. If you compare the two images, you'll notice the healed area is lighter in color. The mole is relatively flat. I'm sure the flaking skin and lighter area is just apart of the healing process. I don't get to see my dermatologist again until late October, so I figured I would once again seek the opinion of your service

Flaking is normal

Hello
Thanks for the query and photographs.
I am glad that now there is no ulceration.
Flaking is a completly normal process.
As the skin was damaged it will flake out and new skin will regenerate.
Just relax.

Detailed Answer:
Wow that would be great. :-)
ya exactly that is totally normal. It is called as post inflammatory hypo pigmentation. As soon as the skin heals this hypo pigmented area will also recover.
