What Causes Flat Red Patches On Penis Head And Under Foreskin?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: Dr,
I am 20 years old and have had very little sexual partners. I got tested about 4 months ago for std/sti's and it all came back clear. Since then I have only had one sexual partner (protected and very simple no kissing or oral) and now about 3 weeks later a big red painless/ odourless flat red patch has appeared on the head of my penis and underside of my foreskin. What could it be?

Brief Answer:
Balanitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
The picture you have uploaded suggests that you have balanitis.
The most likely organism is candida which is an yeast. You can confirm it by getting a fungal scraping and getting a KOH examination.
It is likely to respond to a topical antifungal cream. If it does not respond very well, you may require to take an oral medication also.
Your GP would be able to prescribe these medicines, if it is difficult to get yourself examined by a dermatologist.
Best wishes,
