Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. I have gone through the details provided. Your niece is likely to be suffering from a viral infection which often occurs due to weather changes and may also be related to throat infections. Some children have a propensity to suffer from such infections but generally it comes down with increase in age. If the frequency is greater than 5-7 times a year, you need to talk to your doctor about the requirement of tonsillectomy.
Amoxycillin-clavulinic acid is an antibiotic but antibiotics are not required in case of such infections since viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and take 5-7 days to resolve. But since you have begun it, please complete the course. In the meantime, it may recurring every 5-6 hours and just give her mefenenamic acid suspension which is the best option to reduce fever. If the fever does not get relieved in 7 days, you need to take her to a doctor and get her evaluated to rule out typhoid. You may also give the child some antiallergic like Relent syrup (cetirizine+ambroxol) for a few days which will help in controlling the allergic component of such infections. You are otherwise managing her fine and no other improvisation is required.
