What Causes Fluctuations In BP While On Medication For GERD?
I don't believe it's pantoprazole
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Pantoprazole does not cause worsening of hypertension. GERD or any other discomfort may cause it though! If you were annoyed by GERD (burning sensation, disturbed sleep etc) your blood pressure could have risen.
If pantoprazole succeeds in reducing GERD discomfort then your blood pressure may get lower again.
I cannot say for sure whether this is what happened to you but this is a possible explanation.
Besides that, a sudden worsening of hypertension may be an indication for investigation about secondary causes of hypertension. In your age, endocrinological problems or atherosclerosis may cause such a worsening. Narrowed renal arteries may decrease blood flow to the kidneys. When blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, the kidneys react by increasing blood pressure.
Another thing to consider is whether (or not) you have changed something in your everyday activities or diet. Added salt has detrimental effects on blood pressure control. The same applies for psychological stress.
In conclusion, if your GERD goes well, you don't eat too much salt, you're not under unusually intense psychological stress etc then you should check out the other reasons, I've mentioned.
I hope I've helped!
