Question: Hi,
My father had high tryglecaride level when tested three months ago. He was prescribed zivast-f ,amplopres-AT, ecospiron-75.
Now he has repeated the test and his levels came down and his bloodpressure is also under control. I have attached both before and after reports . Can you please let me know if he should continue the pills or he can stop.

Thanks for the answer. Is there a definite period/check till which he should continue the medication?. My only concern is that Using these pills when cholesterol levels are in-check should not cause any reduction in good cholesterol/ side affects. Please clarify.
Brief Answer:
Check after 2-3 months
Detailed Answer:
Hi
The drugs reduce the bad (LDL) cholesterol / and tend to raise the good (HDL) cholesterol . There are no officially approved drug till date to up the good cholesterol…
Every 1% reduction of bad cholesterol confers 2 % reduction in heart attack
Checking is usually done after 2 to 3 months of life style changes and medicines.
We aim LDL level of 100 (70 if there is co-morbidity like Diabetes, existing heart disease etc.). The dose may need revision / no stopping of the drug
Medicines need be taken life long – because cholesterol is produced in the body lifelong… If we stop the medicine, the level will go up – it is question of time. There is no disease modifying medicine here, because, it is genetically determined / they only control their effects
Regards
