Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.
I have read your query.
I understand your concern.
It seems that your brother is suffering from a condition called Herpes labialis. It is viral infection of skin caused by Herpes simplex virus 1 characterised by grouped fluid filled lesions on erythematous base associated with burning sensation or pain.
This is a highly recurring condition. The virus remains latent inside the ganglion and gets reactivated to produce lesions. The various predisposing factors for reactivation are immunocompromised state, fever, infection, seasonal change etc.
The blisters get burst open to form erosions in 2-3 days followed by crust formation.
I prefer to advise topical antibiotic cream like mupirocin 2 percent and oral antivirals like Acyclovir / Valacyclovir to my patients.
Your brother is appropriately taking the medications. The medications should be started within 24-48 hours of onset of ras so as to prevent recurrence and earlier healing.
in case of Diabetic patients or immunocompromised state, the healing may get delayed.
He should continue to take the medications till 1 week is completed.
I hope it helps.
Take care.

suppressive therapy of Acyclovir is given orally
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Welcome back.
See if a person gets more than 6epispdes in a year then suppressive therapy of Acyclovir is advised. In such situation, long course of Acyclovir is given orally for 6months to years also depending on the response. If in case, acute episodes occur while on suppressive therapy, then the acute episode is treated and suppressive therapy is restarted.
you can share my opinion with your doctor.
I am sure that he would agree with this.
Take care.

THANKS
It is Herpes virus that remains in nerve bundles
Detailed Answer:
In suppressive therapy, dose of Acyclovir is different from the dose given for treatment of acute episode. In this, 400 mg of Acyclovir is given twice daily for months together.
Mupirocin is the an antibiotic. Herperax cream contains acyclovir so both are different. I prefer to advise mupirocin cream to my patients.
Yes this virus is Herpes Simplex virus that causes Herpes.
It cannot be removed from body. Once infected, virus remains in the nerves and reactivate to produce blisters.
For treatment, you should consult your doctor so that he can examine you and give you prescription as per body weight.
I hope I am able to solve your query.
Stay healthy.
