What Causes Flushing Prickly Rash All Over My Body?

Question: Hi, I have had about six spells in the last couple of weeks of a flushing prickly rash all over my body. It lasts about an hour or so then disappears. I feel fine except for these symptoms. I am a healthy 69 yrs old, my only medication is lisinopril for blood pressure. I am pretty fit, regularly exercise and active. I am 5ft 4in and weigh 112 lbs. Should I be alarmed? Should I contact my doctor. Thank-you so much
Brief Answer:
Hypersensitivity reaction
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You complain of multiple short lived hypersensitivity kind of reaction. Most of the times it is benign. However as a part of protocol it requires a regular schedule of examination by doctor to find out any obvious reasons.
The reasons could be because of release of mediators because of hormonal, nutritional issues. It may not be allergy as you do not seem to have swelling. During menopause the skin becomes much dry and you experience hot flushes. This may start late in few menopausal women.
Hope this helps.
