What Causes Foamy Urine, Frequent Urination And Abnormal Amount Of Protein?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 May 2015
Question: Over the past few days I've noticed bubbles or foam on my urine. It happens during the day but not in the evening after I've had two or three beers. I cannot recall if this has always been there or I've just become aware of it. I started Dexilant on Wednesday evening and took it again on Thursday evening and on Friday I began to experience the frequent need to urinate and some discofort in my pelvic region. No burning. I do have BPH and take Alfuzosin. I also felt as though I wasn't emptying properly. These symptoms have started to subside today. I took a home UTI test yesterday and it was negative for nitrite but slightly positive for leukocytes. My most recent bllod tests in March showed Albumin 4.1, Globulin 2.0, Creatinine 1.1, BUN 18. I should also add that my urologist alsays tests my urine and has never said that there was any abnormal amount of protein in it. The last visit would have been January. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
There is no need to be concerned very much.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Health Care magic. Thank you for posting your query.
I can understand your concern.

The bubbles and foam can be a normal phenomenon or it can be due to proteins leaking. No need to worry about that . Had there been protein in the urine , it would have shown up on the routine urine examination.

The discomfort in the pelvic region and improper emptying could be due the BPH that you mentioned. You may need adjustment of drug dosage or surgery for it.

The March blood tests are normal except that the creatinine is slightly higher .

I would suggest you to
- Drink loads of water
- Get a repeat routine urine examination done
- Get a pelvic ultrasound and uroflowmetry done to look at the prostate.

Visit your urologist. He/she can examine you and correlate clinically.

Hope this helps.
