What Causes Foul Vaginal Odor In Infant?
Question: My (otherwise healthy) 17 month old girl has an odor around her vagina. We are in middle of potty training & so she goes without a diaper when at home so as to encourage use of her potty chair. After showers or a cleaning the odor is not present and does not appear to smell at the opening of or inside her vagina. My husband is wanting to give her fllagyl that we have left over from us taking it awhile back. I think this is extreme for such a small body (I lean very heavily towards natural/homeopathic options, especially for kids). Am I over reacting? Should metronidazole be a first run to for us? And what about the studies showing that it causes changes in genetic material?
Brief Answer:
no need to give flagyl
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
I can understand your concern.
But there is no need to run for flagyl.
As this smell may be due to disturbed vaginal flora which may be due to infection, yeast, harsh soap, dettol, poor hygine.
You can use empson salt 2 to 3 times a week in bath.
Also you can apply clotrimazole cream after consulting a doctor.
Good hygine , lot of water and frequent diaper change will also help.
Hope i helped you.
