Hi,

Most probably the reasons would be some kind of obstructions in the genitourinary system, conditions which could lead to immunosuppression like diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Maintaining very good hydration by drinking 3 to 4 litres of water per day, strictly maintaining proper personal hygiene near genital area particularly before and after sexual intercourses would help avoid frequently occurring UTI.

Also, please get investigations done to rule out any obstructions in the genitourinary tract which can also predispose for these kind of frequent UTI. Diabetes is also a predisposing factor but good that you don't have it.

Medications containing steroids would also predispose for frequent UTI, so please check if you are taking any such medicines.

Thanks

Dear Doctor
In reply to an obstruction of the bladder. I had an ultrasound of the bladder and Kidneys yesterday and it was clean. I had a blood test and I do not have diabetes.

Dates of UTI August 2013
December 2014
July 17, 2017
October 23, 2017

My urologist told me take take Cypro 500mg three boxes
They gave me four Briklin 500 injections.

I have several questions

Did I contract UTI from the bath at the Physical Therapy. That is I picked it up from the air?

Because I am worried about UTI I pass my urine in plastic cups in public toilets. Is this the reason?

How do I protect myself in the future? What precautions should I take to prevent UTI in the future?

After moving my bowels I use the bidet to wash the anal area from behind and probably the water moves the sediments to the front. Could this be the reason?

My spleen has been remove, means that my immune system is down?

How do I build immunity?

Can I insert vagina gel because I have atrophy of the vaginal area?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
splenectomy causes immunosuppression

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Good that your ultrasound is normal. Tbings like Bathing at specific place, washing habit etc do not seem to be very concerning reasons for your frequent UTI to me but splenectomy history is quite significant. Since splenectomy causes immunosuppression. This may increase susceptibility to infections with specific kind of bacteria. Thorough follow up and when you suspect threshold symptoms of infection is necessary so that the infection may not be complicated.

Vaginal atrophy is common in postmenopausal age. You need to take gynecologist advice about it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I can understand your concern but unfortunately there is no proper medical literature evidence/enough Clinical research done to support that cranberry juice can boost immunity or about the pills to sterilize urinary tract.

Drinking good amount of water can be helpful. Judicious use of prophylactic antibiotics will be recommended based on the number of UTI experienced in a year through regular follow ups with your treating doctor.

thanks
