What Causes Frequent Bouts Of Chills, Severe Vomiting And Diarrhea?
Question: My 68 year old father has frequent bouts of chills, severe vomiting and severe diarrhea. He has had a bunch of tests run at his doctor's office , they even checked his stools for parasites, checked his gallbladder , did routine checks on his colon and other blood test to try and rule stuff out (I don't know all of the test specifically but I know my parents were concerned and wanted to find out what was going on) . Nothing was found to be causing these symptoms. He was a plumber for 35 years and about 10 years ago had necrotizing fasciitis . My mother thinks it is whatever he eats that may be causing these episodes, He smokes the occasional cigar, drinks occasionally (beer and whiskey) 1-2 per week, and has stopped eating a bunch of things Like spaghetti , peanut butter and ice cream. The other day, he ate a Nature valley granola bar and then started to feel the chills all over, started vomiting and then the diarrhea kicked in (and the diarrhea is really bad- he can barely get to the bathroom in time !) Please Help
Brief Answer:
Possible food poisoning
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir.
As per your symptoms your father probably has mild to moderately severe good poisoning that is causing the diarrhoea symptoms with fever and chills.
It's important to start antibiotics at the earliest.
Many of the cases of food poisoning cannot be detected on routine blood tests.
I generally prescribe combination antibiotic oral pills of Ofloxacin 400 mg and Ornidazole 500 mg...one pill twice a day for 5 days.
Drink plenty of fluids.
take bland diet.
This will effectively reduce the symptoms.
Please check with your physician if he shares m view and if can prescribe these pills to him.
Post your further questions if any.
Thank you
