What Causes Frequent Diarrhea?

Question: I have daily diarrhea that can only be relieved with immodium. It started two months ago as diarrhea once every few days and has progressed to this.
My GP has done ultra sound and CT scans on abdomen and pelvis. All Normal.
Blood tests, including amalase all normal. EKG normal. not sure why he was checking my heart. Anyway all normal.
Urine normal.
No indigestion. Just horrible cramps and diarrhea unless I take immodium. Then it stops. So I take 2-4 immodium a day.
I have an appointment with a gastro specialist in 3 weeks. My doctor says he will likely do a colonoscopy and is probably ibs. Tells me stop worrying. From what I read on the internet, IBS doesn't usually cause daily diarrhea for this long.
What is your opinion?.

Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
Though some of the symptoms point towards IBS, the points against are -
1. Duration of 2 months
2. Loss of weight ( I presume the weight loss is significant and is unintentional)
You need to undergo the following tests if not done already.
1. Thyroid function test
2. Test for celiac disease
3. Colonoscopy

Dr.R.K
