Brief Answer:
Possible excess stress; some tests should be done

Detailed Answer:
Greetings. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.

As I can see, you are young, only 35 years of age, and shortness of breath is an atypical symptom regarding your age. That is why my first and most probable suspicion is that this symptom in your case has a psychological, stress-related component. However, to definitely conclude that this is the case, some tests, to rule out the possible organic origin of this symptom, should be carried out.
- complete blood count - lower than normal levels of haemoglobin may be associated with this symptom
- a biochemical panel - sometimes, even slight functional problems with any organ system may cause the symptom
- an echo cardiogram - to evaluate the heart chambers and its valves by means of structural integrity, motility and function
- a plain chest X-ray - to assess the lungs and their linings

After all these tests have been carried out, then we can definitely be sure that the shortness of breath is a result of stress and probable panic attacks related to it.

I hope you find my answer helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton

Brief Answer:
Yes it can

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Theoretically and indirectly, pre-menstrual rising of hormone levels in circulation, may cause it. However, although not urgently, my opinion is that tests provided in the original answer, should be carried out.

I hope my follow-up is helpful. If you do not have further questions, close the discussion and rate the answer.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
