What Causes Frequent Urge To Urinate And Voiding Difficulty?
I am 35 old male.
I have frequent urination problem last 4-5 years. I was told overactive bladder and given some medication. I used medication for some time and stopped taking medication.
I don't want to take medication I am suspecting some other problem considering my age I shouldn't have this problem.
I am still having problem with frequent urination 2-3 times during night and daytime as well. Frequent urge to urinate and difficult voiding every time. This is causing me lot of issues.
Could you please suggest if going for Colonoscopy test will help diagnose the issue?
Thanks
No, colonoscopy will not help with diagnose this issue. Other suggestions.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.
Colonoscopy will not help diagnose the issue because it diagnoses problems in the bowel and visualizes it closely.
Maybe you have already done the following tests, but I will suggest them and I hope any of them it is helpful:
-- Repeat Urine analysis and culture sensitivity- Rule out urine infection. Important and common.
-- PSA and digital examination of prostate to check for prostate enlargement (inflammation secondary to infection mainly at this age) which may give frequent urination during night.
-- I see you are taking blood pressure medication. Is it a diuretic (water pill) ? Some medications can increase urination too. Do check if the ones you're taking are from those kind of medications.
-- If you want to check what it is going on with your bladder or the urinary ways, there are examinations with the same method of work as colonoscopy which can visualize the urinary ways like Cystoscopy or urethrocystoscopy.
Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Blood pressure medication is Losartan 50MG that I started only recently.
But my problem of frequent urination/difficulty voiding is from last 5 years during day time and night time.
I only take 1 cup of coffee per day and don't smoke and no alcohol at all.
I will talk to my Dr regarding PSA and digital examination of prostate,Cystoscopy.
I am not sure why I have this issue starting age 30 with no family history of similar issue.
I have to void multiple times when I had sex and ejaculation. That's the worst time.
Do you think inflammation last 5 years is causing this issue? Can inflammation stay that long?
No, inflammation can become chronic and last for a long time.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Losartan does not give frequent urination, so that is a good medicine for you.
Your question is very legitimate- inflammation would have gone worse with the time. Sometimes though, if you have an infection which is not treated well or other predisposing factors the inflamation can become chronic. The urine analyse though will diagnose many problems and give a general idea of the kidney function.
I am sorry to hear about the difficulty you are having. It is not usual in a person of your age. I am surprised though that the labs mentioned above have not been recommended before.
I will be happy to help if you will have questions or if you want to follow-up with me when you get their results. Your doctor may recommend other tests as well (depends on what is available there). It is very important that he understands the distress all this problem is causing you.
Regards and take care.
