Brief Answer:
Urinary tract infection, prolonged bed rest, uterine prolapse

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Frequent urination and inability to hold urine (urinary incontinence - UI) is usually associated with an urinary tract infection.

I would clinically examine her for signs of infection, pelvic floor muscle weakness and uterine prolapse, run some blood tests to check for infection, blood glucose levels.
I recommend an urine analysis and an urine culture if there are any signs of infection in the analysis report.
If infection is present, an appropriate course of antibiotics will help to ease symptoms. A repeat urine test must be done for making sure infection has gone 3days after the antibiotics are over.

If there is no infection present, high blood glucose must be ruled out. In addition to this pelvic floor muscle weakness can lead to UI and must be ruled out

In this case, pelvic floor muscle strengthening exercise will help to prevent UI, but needs to be done consistently, regularly and properly. Initially, guidance by a therapist or a doctor is required.
This will take a few weeks to take effect.
If there is any significant uterine prolapse, she may need surgery to repair the defect.

I recommend that she meet her physician /OBGYN to check for these.
In the meantime, avoid irritants like caffeine, sugar, spicy foods. She she be well hydrated.
Certain medications for hypertension may increase frequency of urine.

Prolonged bed rest can weaken relevant muscles. Ambulatory her, making her sit up and walk (if it has been approved by her doctor) should improve these symptoms.

Hope this helps. Please let me know of there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you both good health.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
