What Causes Frequent Urination?

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: I have been having frequent urination in large qualities at night . I wake up every 2hours and have to urinate a fairly large amount each time. this has been going on for a long time. I do drink a good amount of water daily. Also when I get to urinate at night I drink water .My thinking is if I urinate a lot it needs to be replaced. I also have time where i have to urinate frequently some days when I don't drink that much water and then some days I can go for 4 to 6 hours without urinating. .I do have discomfort most of the time I urinate. I asked my DR and he said it is probably from the Radiation treatments I had for Prostate cancer. and that I might always have the disconfort. As long as long as i don't pass blood don't worry about . I have taken urine test and they always show normal..Had ct scans and are normal. I take flomax..04 mg and atenolol 25 mg. and Klonopin 2 mg. I have had frequent urination for over 3o years off and on.

Brief Answer:
Do not replace urine output with equivalent water

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Normally 1.5 liter of urine is produced evryday and the fluid requirement is 2 to 2.5 liter. During internal metabolism of food also water is produced.
The practise of drinking water with every act of urination is the root cause of your frequent urination. Urine loss is not to be replaced with equal amount of intake of water, doing so will cause polyuria.
Ensure water intake of 2.5 liter a day, avoid drinking water after 7 pm and practise double voiding during bedtime this will definitely solve your problem of frequent voiding.

Double voiding: Just before you are retiring to bed , void urine, again after a gap of 5 to 10 minutes again void urine. This will ensure that bladder is completely empty and along with fluid restriction at night will be very effective.

I hope I have answered your query.
