What Causes Genital Sores Post Intercourse?
Question: Hi, About a year and a half ago, I spotted an open sore on my genitals. I spotted this sore after having intercourse with my GF and she broke out as well. I haven't any relations with other people for a year and half before this time. I went to the doctor and got tested for everything under the sun she did as well. All test came back negative for all STDs and HIV. I swabbed after that and tested positive for marsa staff infection. The doctor gave me antibiotics and it went a way about a month ago The same single sore showed again it started as a very light irritation to where I thought it was nothing, but when I looked the little sore was there. I applied A&D ointment to it after showering and in the morning no irritation and it healed quickly. I wanted to go back to the doctor but didn't have time and didn't to go through all the testing. My Girlfriend has recently gotten the same thing and I now I need to know whats going on? I did plenty of research on what it could be. The first thing I thought was herpes but from pictures and symptoms they are nothing alike which is what my doctor told me when I got tested the first time. I would appreciate any helpful answers. Thank You
P.S. No intercourse took place when the small sore was noticed recently.
A few errors in the question. My Girlfriend and I were tested for all STDs including herpes 1 and 2 while the sore showed up on us about a year and a half ago, we tested negative for all test. I was tested positive for marsa staff infection at this same time. I was treated with antibiotics and it went away within 10 days after as well as my Girlfriend.
Recently, it came back just a singlle sore like last time and it went away within a week or too with no antibiotics just A&D ointment. A single sore just showed up on my Girlfriend as well just like the one I had. When spotted no intercourse has taken place.

Brief Answer:
Herpes
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns.
You have had a recurrent ulceration on your genitals as well as your girlfriend. Despite the blood work being negative for herpes this sounds like herpes. The best test is to be swabbed during the outbreak. Your girlfriend should also get tested for herpes with a swab. Blood tests can be falsely negative if the test is done too early in the course of the disease. Your body did not have time to produce enough antibodies to be detected. I recommend retesting for herpes immediately and not to wait.
