What Causes Goosebumps All Over Body?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: I'm getting goosebumps all over my body whenever it comes in contact with fabric, paper anything that touches it slightly. I feel it mainly on my upper arms but also thighs, feet, even when I touch my hair everything feels dry. This has started around a week ago, I can't focus on anything I do, please help!

I've had veneers done lately and some sensitivity ever since. Could it be related?

Or is it just a vitamin deficiency?

Brief Answer:
I would like to gather more information from you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query.

Goose bumps is body's reflex response to certain stimuli like cold; strong emotions like anger, fear etc

This response is initiated by release of adrenaline and the result is contraction of tiny arrector pilli muscle, which are attached to the base of each hair, thus pulling hair to become erect manifesting as Goose Bumps.

The response is usually a short lasting one and subsides as soon as the stimulus is removed. Therefore, usually they are not bothersome.

I would like to gather more information from you for more clarity regarding your query.

-I am not able to understand when you say that " everything feels dry"? Could you please elaborate?

-Are the bumps persistent Or they recur frequently? Those who have dry skin they can have bumps on outer arms and outer thighs which are actually keratosis pilaris, which make the skin feel rough. Therefore I would like to specifically rule out these.

-Can you upload a few Images of lesions on arms? They would certainly help

If these are actually goose bumps, it is unlikely to be due to any vitamin deficiency Or due to sensitivity to veneers

A: I mean that my whole body feels dry especially my arms and legs when something brushes against them (like how chalk feels dry), so you can imagine how annoyed i feel from the clothes Im wearing.. I mosturize regularly and when i touch with my hands my skin isn't really dry

A: They are really goosebumps, they go away when I shower but keep occurring when i brush against fabric, paper and the likes of it (this never used to happen to me before) Now the whole day they COME AND GO from the clothes I am wearing mainly.

A: I've tried to attach a picture as a report Im not sure how to upload a series of images?

If these are actually goose bumps, it is unlikely to be due to any vitamin deficiency Or due to sensitivity to veneers

Brief Answer:
I suggest you to use a fabric softener and wet wipes

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the Images. They look like Goose bumps.

Some people can have this sort of a reaction specially when they touch Or come in contact with certain rough surfaces like fabric, paper, towels, corduroy, carpets etc.

I suggest that you may use a fabric softener for your clothes and towels that would make them feel softer.
You may use wet tissue/ baby wipes rather than dry paper tissues.

Besides, you may also take an opinion of a neurologist regarding this.

Thank you doctor, but im still worried. I will try the softener idea when i wash the clothes. However, I never used to have this kind of reaction ever, and I am restless.

For example, I have a pair of shoes that I always wear and only now have i started not being able to stand the way they feel on my feet because of the slight friction.

Can you tell me is there anything else that it could be? I don't really trust the doctors in my country and this could be something very simple but they will make me take all kinds of medication.. Please help me..

Brief Answer:
This would go away on its own.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

This is nothing serious. You don't need to bother too much about it and just need to relax.

Taking too much of stress and assuming it to be something serious would rather induce this response with more ease.

In fact stressing out too much about this or something else may be either causing it or exacerbating it.

This would ultimately go away on its own. There is no need for any extensive investigations.
Taking opinion of a neurologist would only assure you more about this fact.

Regards
Take care
