What Causes Green Discharge From Ear Along With Pain And Fever?

Question: Hi there,
My 6 year daughter has had bright green discharge (looks like snot) coming from her ears for way over 2 weeks now. The doctor says the ears are doing what they need to be doing draining and its should be okay but she has gone through a 10 day round of cepahxyl antibiotic ( I am sorry not sure how to spell it) over a week ago and the thick green mucus is still draining and occasionally at night she wakes up crying because the pain. Her eyes have become red and puffy she has a diminished appetite and on occasion she strikes a fever of 102.5 but its not consistent. The pediatrician keeps telling me not to worry but its effecting her overall health and her schooling. Does this sound normal? I think the diagnosis is wrong because she is declining but the dr tells me not to worry but im concerned for my daughter.

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics choice should be reviewed
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome
I appreciate your concern
Empiric treatment for otitis media with antibiotics should be observed for 3 days. Ceftriaxone 1 g IM is a good option that acheives sufficient concentration in the area. The discharge should be cultured. Treatment should be altered if the clinical response is not sufficient. Consult an ENT Specialist doctor if you are not satisfied with the current management of your child.
Pneumococcal vaccine and annual influenza vaccine should also be advised.
Let me know if you have any query
Wishing you best of health
