What Causes Green Stool?
Question: What would cause green stools? I have never had blood in my stools and that would be black or red I am not on blood thinners and have not eaten anything with green XXXXXXX in it.
Brief Answer:
About green stool
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Other than foods and medicines with green XXXXXXX the two other likely causes of green stool is eating foods with more leafy green vegetables, for example kale; or having a faster transit time between eating and bowel movement. This prevents the bile pigments from being broken down, so they show up in your stool as green.
Green stool usually is not a dangerous problem.
I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Thank you. Is it more likely to happen if I had my gall bladder removed? I have started some new supplements too.
Brief Answer:
Information
Detailed Answer:
It's possible that the supplements might contain some non-dye green substances such as chlorophyll.
About the lack of gall bladder, I suppose it's possible, but it's more a function of what happens to the bile pigments the liver makes, once they are in the intestines. If there is diarrhea, the contents of the intestines move through too rapidly for the bile pigments to be altered.
