What Causes Grey Spot In Right Eye While Blinking?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: About two years ago, I noticed a grey spot in my right eye when blinking. When I would be reading, letters where that spot were would be kind of obscured or garbled. The ophthalmologist didn't believe me, and did an OCT. She said there was "something there," but she didn't know what it was and it "wasn't serious." She sent me on my way. It didn't bother me that much because of where the spot was. It often was not that noticeable unless I closed my eye and tried to see it. Yesterday, the same thing appeared in my left eye in a more central, noticeable location. When I read a sentence with only my left eye, and scan through it, the word I just read kind of disappears when I read the next one. In other words, the word immediately to the left of the word I focus on is distorted/half gone. I'm terrified that this means I have macular degeneration and am going blind. I am only 28.

Brief Answer:
Get an MRI BRAIN

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message.
I think I can help you.
The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of a possible nerve issue.
I would suggest that you get a MRI BRAIN tested as soon as possible.
Sudden onset of such symptoms is actually quite suggestive of a possible stroke like condition.
And yes, stroke do occur in young people - it's called stroke in young.

of course, if this turns out to be normal an ophthalmic consultation should be planned as well to rule out a possible retinal detachment .

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal
