Question: My 11 year old child has one whit spot on his leg. No itching or burning etc but looks like it is growing slowly... Doc says there is an injection that can be given to contain it from spreading and we can observe after a few weeks.. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
could be vitiligo
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
From the description it seems your child could be having a single lesion of vitiligo.
Your doctor must have advised a steroid injection to induce pigmentation and control disease activity.
I would appreciate if you could attach an image of the lesion, so that i can confirm diagnosis and suggest an effective treatment.

Hi,
Thanks for sending the pic.
Though the image is not very clear but a small white spot can be seen.
It looks like vitiligo lesion but you need not worry.
Right now I would suggest that you use a potent steroid like clobetasol cream once in a day over affected area and tacrolimus 0.03% ointment twice in a day. If at all lesions seems to be increasing in number or size then we will start oral medicines. Personally I feel we can delay injection for few weeks as the lesion should respond to topical treatment alone.
hope this helped.
