What Causes Gurgling In Stomach And Abdominal Gas After Eating?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My email is YYYY@YYYY
Here's my symptoms: when I eat or drink, I get that gurgly, gassy feeling right away in the lower abdomen. There is no pain or cramping. I have lost weight over the last few weeks (not trying to) and haven't had a firm bowel movement in about 3 weeks. I go once a day, and it's not runny, but not firm either. I have no discomfort really, just troubled by these symptoms.
I forgot to mention that I have Kaiser health coverage and every year they send me a kit in the mail to take a stool sample that I return to them and they screen it for cancer. I did that test about 6 weeks ago and results were normal.

Brief Answer:
Sub-acute intestinal infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
The symptoms you have mentioned are suggestive of intestinal infection, although not acute.
I would advise you the following:
Stool test: routine and microscopy, occult blood (in spite of the one you have sent back to Kaiser Health)
Get a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotic, activated charcoal tablets and supportive medicines and I hope you will be fine. (You need a prescription from a local Doctor)
I hope this helps you.

Thank you for your quick response. I'd like to know if there's something I can start doing now until I can get in to see my doctor, as I am leaving on a trip Tues. morning and will be gone for 6 days. Would doxycycline be of benefit with this? I have some on hand that I could start now. Should I take a probiotic supplement with me on the trip? The charcoal tables scare me a little. And what are "supportive medicines"?
Brief Answer:
yes please.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your your appreciation and kind words.
You may please start Doxycyclin, the dose would be one today and then once a day, I hope it helps you. (do not take this with milk or milk products).
Yes, you may take probiotic daily, helps a bit.
These are ''activated'' charcoal tablets and they are the exclusive in their action of adsorbing and fixing up the infection and the bad byproducts.
Supportive medicines means: like anti-spasmodic if pain, Domperidone if nausea/vomiting, multivitamins for early recovery and so on. But I am not sure if you will get these over the counter.
Wishing you good health and a great trip.
