Posted on Tue, 17 Oct 2017
Question: My wife has heart trouble. She is losing her hair of late and wants to try Rogaine. But there is a warning on the box, do not take if you have heart trouble Her Afib and BP are under control. She has 4 stents in her heart. Rogaine was recommended by a Dermatologist on this site to try Rogaine. Is that warning just a generic term used to avoid a lawsuit by the Mfr or is it for real?

Brief Answer:
Please refer to the detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

After going through the medical details provided by you of your wifes health I would like to tell you that the warning is for real and it's not just to avoid lawsuits.

The medicine it contain is Minoxidil which basically is a vasodilator which can cause fall in blood pressure. It can also cause bradycardia. This can lead to an emergency situation.

It's advisable that you should personally consult a dermatologist along with cardiac history recor d's and take proper advice. Although lower concentration strength of it can be used but still I would not recommend it and it will take minimum of 6 months to start it's effect.

I hope this information will be helpful and will guide you properly.

Kind regards
