What Causes Hand And Lip Numbness After Taking Nuvigil?
Question: I am a 28 year old female with two smal children. I am 157.48 cm in height. I weigh 152 pounds. I was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope April 2011 with symptom onset at age 12. I have been tried on the highest doses of both florinef and proamatine with no effect. Currently, I do not take medication for the neurocardiogenic syncope. August 2014 I was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia while further investigating the syncope. I was prescribed Nuvigil 250mg with positive effect concerning debilitating sleepiness. However, the Nuvigil 250mg has had no effect on my syncope or hypotension. I was recently advised (6 weeks ago) by my PC to take Allegra D and Flonase to treat seasonal allergies causing fluid build-up in middle ear. This evening my right hand went numb beginning in the tips of my first and second didgets. The numbness spread to all didgets and palm, eventually involving the entire right hand- this took approximately 10 minutes to occur. Additionally, the right side of my top lip began going numb (as the hand numbness spread to palm) and progressed horizontally across right cheek bone to right ear. No loss of function accompanied numbness which lasted for nearly one hour. This symptom has never happened before. I am concerned about the numbness because of the relatively new addition of allergy medications. Should I contact my doctor or is this a none issue? If I should contact my doctor, should I contact my PC or my Cardiologist?

Yes, the current symptoms of Numbness of the hand are possibly related to the newly prescribed medications.
Both Nuvigil and Flonase have the propensity to cause such symptoms.
If the symptoms are severe and persistent, I advise you to go for nerve conduction studies.
You should certainly contact your doctor.
You need to consult a Neurologist, in addition to Cardiologist.
