What Causes Hard Bump On Cheek?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: I had somethng that seemed hard on/in my left cheek. I applied warm compresses and nothing would come out. So, yesterday I picked it out. Within an hour I had a 1 inch circle surrouning the small wound. I woke up this morning and it is hot and hard. And I still have the red circle around the wound. What should I do? What did I do?

Brief Answer:
Sounds like you have a Bacterial Infection, Oral abx should help...

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at HealthCareMagic

I have gone through your query and I have also seen the photo.

I can see that there is a well defined, red coloured, wide area around a central eroded lesion/ulcer/wound on left cheek.

I would suggest the possibility of a superficial cellulitis (erysipelas), secondary to bacterial infection gaining entry through the central eroded lesion/ulcer. Picking must have facilitated entry and/or spread of bacterial infection through the wound.

If I was your doctor I would have started you empirically on an oral antibiotic, without delay. I would have continued it for a week.

My choice would have been either Flucloxacillin Or Cephalexin. Oral antibiotics would prevent further spread of the infection as well as resolve existing one.

Oral antibiotics are prescription drugs, therefore I suggest that you talk to your physician for the needful.

Topically you may continue with Neosporin ointment, twice daily.

Regards
