Weight management should be the priority treatment.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Even though it needs a personal physical examination of the abdomen of your Dad, if I were your doctor, after the clinical examination, I would advise your Dad to have an ultrasound of the abdomen to rule out any chance of an enlargement of any of the intra abdominal organs which could give rise to such feeling on standing or walking.
However, the first advice I would like to convey for your Dad would be to put all his efforts to reduce his weight by regular routine aerobic exercises within his medical limits, have a healthy diet with a lot of fibre/roughage and enough liquids with avoidance of fatty, fried food and alcoholic beverages. The present feeling of hardness could be due to the stretching of abdominal muscles while trying to carry the weight of the person on standing and walking, provided any other pathology was ruled out by clinical examination and an ultrasound of abdomen.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your Dad's problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.

thanks for your answer I really appreciate it :)
Weight must be the culprit.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Nice to hear from you so early which shows your concern for the health of your Dad.
Good to know that the ultrasound report was normal. In that case he has to pay attention to his weight in consultation with his family physician.
Thanks and good luck.
Dr Shareef.
