What Causes Having Black Dots In Vision?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: Tonight I noticed little black dot in my vision, along with with what looked like eye lashes, or webs. I do not see this with the whole eye, it just seems to be the out side corner of my right eye. I know that sounds funny but that's where I am seeing that almost out at the corner of my eye. At first I thought the black dots were fruit flies. When I swatted them away and they were still there, I realized that it was actually my eye.

Brief Answer:
These are floaters.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having black dots in the visual field which move with the eye movements.
These are called as floaters and are because of degeneration of the vitreous which lies behind the lens in the eye. The other causes are vitreous detachment and retinal tears....
Most of these are not harmful and are common in people aged more than 50-60 years.
However eye examination by indirect ophthalmoscopy is required to examine the vitreous and retina by a ophthalmologist.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for examination and treatment accordingly.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thank you
