default
Posted on Sat, 6 Sep 2014
Question: My husband had a VP shunt on Monday of this week. He is 78. Hearing tests prior to procedure were normal. He had the shunt and then developed nausea. headache, pain behind his eyes, photo sensitivity. Called his surgeon who got him a second cat scan and adjusted the valve in the shunt from 130 to 168. How long will it take for the pressures to return to a more normal level and when will the symptoms get better.?

Brief Answer:
A week or more

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Need not worry, headache , nausea, photosensitivity etc are common non serious complications seen soon after VP shunt.

It takes a minimum of a week for the intracranial pressure to normalize, sometimes even more depending on the cause of the same.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
