What Causes Headache, Pain And Tingling Sensation In Left Eye Ball?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jun 2016
Question: For past two two days bad headaches pressure. This morn I woke up with left eye ball pain. I went to optometrist he said all looked normal except thinning of the optic nerve more on right eye than left though he said may not cause pain. He said maybe cluster headaches. If eye pain continues to call him tomorrow to get in to see ophthalmologist or maybe neurologist. Later today my left side of ddnose and cheek tingles like when dentist meds wear off. What could be wrong. My head is not hurting now just eyeball and tingling.

Brief Answer:
Give details and take treatment as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Ocular pain may be due to glaucoma, cluster headache and facial pain may be due to herpes zoster or trigeminal neuralgia.

Is there any redness of eye, tearing, nasal stuffiness, vomiting?

Cluster headache needs management by oxygen therapy and pain killers.
Glaucoma is characterized by pain, redness and vision diminution.

Trigeminal neuralgia is short shooting lancinating pain over face, multiple episodes lasting for few seconds. Treatment is with Carbamazepine, Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Amitryptiline.

Herpes zoster is with pain and skin lesions. Sometimes pain precedes skin lesions by a day or two. Be watchful and in case of any skin lesion in the pain region to consult a doctor.
