What Causes Headache While Waking Up?
I just went to the clinic for treatment of an ear infection. While there they took my blood pressure and found it to be 189/110 with the blood pressure machine and then 200/114 taken manually. They were very concerned about this and advised to get on BP meds as soon as possible. I have noticed a few times that my heart does beat a little too long after I climb the stairs to go to bed and I do often wake up with headaches near the base of my skull in the mornings, but I have attributed this to the type of work that I do which requires me to look up all the time. I plan on getting a blood panel on Tuesday, is there anything else I can do in the mean time?
Here are a few suggestions while you wait for your tests
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. You are fairly young to be experiencing such elevated blood pressure levels and I attribute this to your profession as well as I see an increasing number of your IT-associated individuals coming across such a presentation.
This mainly has to do with the odd working hours, desk jobs (due to prolonged durations of sitting without exercise or physical activity), high stress levels, etc. What you can do in the meantime is the following:
+If you do have a desk job then make sure you leave your seat once every 30 minutes and walk around for about 5 minutes
+Drink plenty of water
+Try to avoid getting stress
+Make sure you sleep well and at the same time every day
+Avoid changing your shift timings if at all that was a possibility as this can interfere with your metabolism, sleep cycle, eating habits, and everything else
+Make sure you do not go about any vigorous exercises, but stay as active and on your feet at most times
+Avoid alcohol and smoking as much as possible
+Eat healthy and avoid fatty, fried or oily food
I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
Is there anything I can do with my diet to lower my BP?
Good to know you are active and not mostly immobile
Detailed Answer:
Hi sir.
That is good to know that you are mostly on the move.
Yes there is:
+Eat small meals and do not overeat
+Drink plenty of water
+Avoid preserved or canned food as it will contain a large amount of salt
+If food is being prepared, then try to use a minimum amount of salt or avoid it completely
+Avoid oily, fatty and fried food
+Eat lean meat
Hope this helps sir.
Best wishes.
