What Causes Heart Palpitations Along With Urge To Cough?
Palpitations
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM
You are concerned about having palpitations that produces a cough. The palpitations need to be investigated further to determine if they are just an irregular heart beat called a premature atrial contraction or a premature ventricular contraction. For some unknown reason these irregular palpitations may be accompanied with a cough. This cough seems to help reset the pacemaker. These irregular heart beats are completely benign and don't require any mediation or treatment.
I do recommend though that you seek medical attention from your primary care doctor and have them run additional tests including regular blood work for anemia, electrolyte disturbances and thyroid abnormalities.
They should also get a resting EKG and then a holter monitor. The holter monitor is a device like an EKG that records every heart beat for 24 hours and then reviewed by a doctor. These irregular heart beats then can be confidently identified and appropriate recommendations made.
I also recommend you avoid caffeine as this can cause irritation to the pacemaker. Also avoid alcohol or any stimulant type medications or drugs.
