Question: Sometimes when I awaken from sleeping I fee the following:

1. Like my heart is struggling to beat
2. Or that my heart is beating very fast
3. Sometimes these feelings coincide with dreams or strong emotions that I may be experiencing concurrently

Is this something to be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are not indicative of any cardiac disorder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms do not seem to be related to any cardiac disorders.

In fact, they could be explained by anxiety.

You should know that awakening is a process, which imposes a kind of emotional and physical stress to your body. Your body changes from a state of full relax to a state of full awareness, and this can be translated as stress by body cells. For this reason, during this this situation the sympathetic nervous system is activated, leading to release of adrenaline noradrenaline in your blood, which cause increased heart rate and even ectopic heart beats (which can mimic the feeling that your heart is struggling to beat or it is beating fast).

This phenomena can be more expressed in some sensitive persons like you.

But, it does not indicate any serious medical condition. It just indicates that you are a sensitive persons.

Another explanation are dreams, which can occur before awakening. You should know that dreams are associated to the activation of the autonomous nervous system, mimicking a state of alarm for the body (just a false alarm).

But, all these explanations are just a normal physiological reaction.

So, just relax and do not worry about it!

Hope to have been helpful!
