What Causes Heart Palpitations When I Cough?

I have recently gone down with a cold.
I am having an exacerbation of palpitations that occur rarely, over the last 12-18 months and I have found that if I cough, they stop, but not always and certainly it doesn't stop them now. I find that a bit worrying.
Last year I had a thorough and complete heart check including the test with the i/v chemically induced tachycardia ultrasound and all came out fine.
Following tests advised to rule out cardiac/GERD issues...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
My opinion is that your symptoms may be typical for supra ventricular tachycardia.
I am happy to know that the cardiac check up you ran last year was fine. However, as it passed 1 year, you should repeat the tests again for this year:
- cardiac echo and ECG
- holter monitoring
- stress test
- abdominal ultrasound
- chest X-ray
If everything is ok, then, upper endoscopy is advised to rule out gastritis or acid reflux/GERD.
For the moment, I highly advise to:
- avoid coffee, chocolate, spicy, chilly foods that would trigger your symptoms
- do not lay down immediately after eating
Because these may trigger supra ventricular tachycardia.
Hope it was of help!
