What Causes Heartburn Post Intake Of Atenolol, Amlodipine, Trandolapril And Losartan?
Every med can cause this
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern. Thank you for your question.
Well, the thing is, whichever the drug causing his heartburn to become worse, it does not suffice only discontinuing the drug. The drugs I read in the "Medication tried" part, are not known to cause or perpetuate the heartburn. As it seems, the heartburn was there, in the terrain of a acute/chronic gastritis (inflammation of the innermost lining of the stomach). Therefore, I would recommend the following measures and treatment:
- no alcohol
- no tobacco
- no pickles, fried or grilled food
- no chocolate
- no coffee or other caffeine-containing beverages
- avoid lying down at least for 90 minutes after he has had a meal
- a 28-day course of a protein pump inhibitor (PPI: omeprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole) taken once a day.
If even after undertaking these measure, there is heartburn, then an upper gastro-intestinal (GI) endoscopy is recommended.
I would recommend him to continue taking the anti-hypertensive medication(s), as it is highly recommended to keep the blood pressure figures under 140/90 mmHg.
I hope my answer is helpful. I am here to help, if you have follow-up questions.
Kind regards,
Dr. Meriton

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and hello again.
Any medication can irritate the stomach mucosa. Atenolol does not have any marked irritation to the stomach mucosa, compared to the others mentioned. I would stick to the recommendations on treating gastritis, with the lifestyle and diet changes I provided in the original answer.
I hope this is helpful. Please close te discussion and rate the answer, if you do not further questions.
