What Causes Heavy Bleeding After Taking IPill?

Question: Hi I am 32 year old unmarried girl. I take i pill after having sex and after 7-8 days I have my periods with heavy flow. Its 5 XXXXXXX when I have my periods since then my period are not come yet. I am pretty worried. Could you please guide me what I should do about it?

The iPill should be taken only in case of emergency and it should be taken within 72 hours of probable unprotected sex. It contains a high dose of hormones which will not allow pregnancy to happen. Taking iPill can cause early or delayed periods for the next two cycles and it is possible that your next periods will be late. That is the reason you have heavy flow a week after taking iPill. Your next period will take time due to hormonal imbalance and it happens in many women. There is no pregnancy. Please do not worry.

Emergency pills like iPill must be taken only in emergency and not more than once in 2 to 3 months. Taking it frequently can cause irregular periods, ovarian cysts and infertility. This is because it contains a high dose of hormones.

Always use condoms or low dose pills when having sex unless you decide to start a family.
