What Causes Heavy Cold, Medium Cough, Body Ache And Pain In Ear?
We started medication on 2/15 night (missed Vertigo medicine on night). She reported little vertigo only once in the morning of 2/16 and for rest of the day she was fine (no body ache). next day i.e. 2/17 morning again she reported vertigo only once and then in evening again she reported vertigo. Apart from vertigo issue she has been feeling better with no body ache, very little cold and cough. We called up GP and he asked us to increased the frequency of Vertigo medicine from 2 times a day to 3 times a day and start stugeron 25 three times a day for 2 days apart from vertin 16 three times a day. We gave vertin 16 in the evening and she was feeling better. Today morning she again reported light vertigo. I have not started with stugeron 25 as she is already taking Vertin 16 for vertigo.
Concern
1. Should I be too much concerned with Vertigo or it would take time for it to go away?
2. When can we expect vertigo to go away? after 5 days of medicine?
3. GP advised H1N1 screening after 5 days of medication. I am not sure if i understand the rationale for this test as my wife don't have symptoms like running nose, fever, vomiting etc. I am very concerned on the course of treatment which she is undergoing.
4. Can vertigo be due to heavy dosage of anti biotic (3 times of day) instead?
Giddiness could be due to dehydration.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
The giddiness could be due dehydration. She could be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection and infection of the ear. The giddiness could be due to dehydration secondary to infection. With the above symptoms its highly unlikely to be due labyrinthitis. Yes, Even the antibiotics she is taking could cause dizziness.
I recommend her the following.
1) Plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
2) Adequate rest and sleep.
3) Analgesics like tablet paracetamol if necessary for pain. Avoid taking too many medications.
4) If the vertigo persists then consult ENT doctor and get an evaluation done rather than increasing and adding more drugs for vertigo.
5) Take antibiotics after meals.
She will be fine.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.
Wish her a good health and speedy recovery.

1. She is already on antibiotic course for 5 days, "upper respiratory tract infection" should go away after this antibiotic? Since my daughter (2 year) also had same infection and she is also on same antibiotic (paediatric one)
2. Would same antibiotic would also remove ear infection as well?
3. Should I be too much concerned with Vertigo or it would take time for it to go away?
4. When can we expect vertigo to go away? after 5 days of medicine?
5. GP advised H1N1 screening after 5 days of medication. I am not sure if i understand the rationale for this test as my wife don't have symptoms like running nose, fever, vomiting etc. Please advice
6. When should we see ENT? Should we wait for 5 day medication course and then see ENT if still vertigo persists?
Nothing to worry. She will be fine.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your follow up.
- Continue same antibiotics. This will take care of both throat and ear infection.
- She might recover slowly over 7 to 10 days. Ask her to take plenty of fluids.
- Nothing to worry much about vertigo. Give some time like 7 to 10 days. If it's persists then consult an ENT doctor for evaluation.
- If symptoms are aggravated and she starts developing vomiting, diarrhea then you can go for H1N1 testing. If she is showing improvement and doing well, no need for testing.
Wish her speedy recovery.

Hi,
Thanks for your follow up.
It takes sometime for her to recover from illness. If she is showing improvement you can wait for 7 to 10 days. If she is finding difficult to manage and symptoms are getting worse then you can see doctor before that also.
Yes, you can take antivertigo medications for symptomatic relief for 10 days. If no improvement then see an ENT doctor.
Wish her a speedy recovery and good health.
