What Causes Heavy Legs While Walking And Shortness Of Breath?
Question: I have been having increasing episodes of slowing, heavy legs with walking more than 50 feet, where I have to push myself to complete getting to my destination. Sometimes I have some shortness of breath, like working out. I also noticed not being able to climb stairs without fatigue and some sob. My doctor ordered a nuclear stress test and my heart looks good with 83% EF. I am easily tired and have retired as a nurse due to exhaustion. I have DM II, hypothyroid, chronic general arthritis, urinary incontinence daily and occassionally bowel incontinence. I have always been active until this started to worsen. Just thought it was aging, but very uncomfortable now. Age 65, 5'4", 165#
Brief Answer:
Get Chest x ray and Pulmonary Function Tests to rule out Bronchitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem.
Since your cardiac work up is normal, no need to worry much for cardiac cause.
I think we should rule out pulmonary cause in your case.
Chronic bronchitis can be seen in old age with out smoking history. And it gives similar symptoms like you are having.
So consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Chest x ray
2. PFT (pulmonary function test)
to rule out chronic bronchitis.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
